The unbeaten two-year-old, which had a back strain only days before the Golden Slipper, is due to return in a barrier trial at Rosehill tomorrow. Payne is aiming Masquerader at the $1 million Golden Rose at Rosehill on August 28.
Brightexpectations is entered for one of the 21 trials at Randwick this morning where Gai Waterhouse’s team will be the focus, while Masquerader will be joined by Solar Charged and Hinchinbrook at Rosehill tomorrow. All of them have the Golden Rose in their sights. ”He [Masquerader] has come back really strong and I think missing the Slipper might have been the best thing that happened to him,” Payne said. ”The same thing happened to Stripper and she got injured before the Slipper but was very good early as a three-year-old and I’m hoping for the same thing with him.
