From February 20, the Museum of Sydney will lend its walls to images that reminisce and speculate on life in the Cross circa 1970.
Up the Cross is the collective photographic work of the late photojournalist Rennie Ellis and his colleague, Wesley Stacey.
Spending many a late night and blurry day trawling the area for subjects in the summer of 1970-71.
The pair created an extensive collection of candid images and findings, published at the close of 1971 in a book called Kings Cross Sydney: a personal look at the Cross.
Although Stacey admits that he has not been back to Kings Cross in years, of one thing he is sure.
“The Cross is ever changing but essentially, it will never change and no one can ever change it,” he said.

“Rennie could get himself into dressing rooms in strip clubs – I was a willing accomplice.
