Indian neurosurgeon in Australia denied bail
Facing murder, manslaughter charges
Suresh Surendranath Nair, Sydney-based neurosurgeon facing charges in Australia for the alleged drugging of his two female escorts with cocaine, leading to their deaths, was denied bail on Tuesday.
Mr. Nair, who will face court again next month, has been charged with the murder of 22-year-old Brazilian student Suellen Domingues Zaupa in November.
He has also been charged with the manslaughter of 23-year-old escort Victoria McIntyre.
His psychiatrist reported that although he had been in denial about his cocaine addiction, he had now come to accept that it has had a detrimental effect on his life.
Supreme Court Justice Megan Latham said the strength of Mr. Nair’s cocaine addiction led her to believe he was likely to commit serious offences if given bail.
