BANKSTOWN Council could face hundreds of thousands of dollars in legal fees if it gets taken to court for refusing to approve a brothel in Villawood.
Cr Max Parker warned colleagues at last Tuesday night’s meeting the council would have to fork out “another” $100,000 if it refused to approve the proposed brothel in a strata unit complex in Birmingham Ave and if applicant Farah Georges took legal action.
But despite the warning and the application complying with the council’s development control plan, most councillors refused it because it was “contrary to the public interest” and because of the suitability of the site.
Cr Parker said the council had an obligation to accredit the brothel.

“The existing insurer will not be insuring us if the brothel goes ahead,” Mr Boga said.

Applicant Mr Georges said he respected the concerns of business owners and would make the brothel as inconspicuous as possible.
