KEEPING a brothel off Great North Rd, Five Dock, may cost Canada Bay ratepayers $50,000 in court fees.
On Friday, Gioxle Pty Ltd, the applicants of a proposed three-storey, 15-room brothel at 227 Great North Rd, took the council to the Land and Environment Court in an attempt to gain approval for the development.
It’s the second time the company has taken the council to court. In December last year the council’s refusal of a brothel at 133 Great North Rd also resulted in legal action.
That case cost the council $24,000 in legal fees. It is estimated the case against 227 Great North Rd will cost the same.
Mayor Angelo Tsirekas said he was frustrated that the company had chosen to take the matter to court before council staff had adequate time to check the plans and had yet to make a decision.

Residents have opposed the proposed brothel development due to its size and proximity to community buildings.
